NOMISMATA is the geo- and chrono-referenced database of Byzantine coin finds from archaeological contexts (498–1453). It provides a fundamental research tool for scholars of economic, monetary, and political history of the Byzantine world, and is available for online consultation.

The project is directed by Bruno Callegher, former Full Professor of Numismatics and Monetary History at the University of Trieste, supported by an extensive, international team (https://byzantine.units.it/en/team/), many of them working on a voluntary basis. Technical implementation is led by Giorgio Donato.
The NOMISMATA database and project are embedded in the University Museum System (https://smats.units.it/en/) in Trieste. Overall funding is granted by University of Trieste, Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, UniTs Foreign Relations Office, PRIN 2022, ensuring system updates and maintenance, the implementation of data, and funding to train young researchers.
More information about the project can be found on the project website: https://byzantine.units.it/en/concept/.
