DISCO – Digital Inventory of Swiss Coin Finds

At a workshop on August 28, 2025 in Bern, the new DISCO database – Digital Inventory of Swiss Coin Finds – was presented.

The database will be the central tool of the Inventory of Coin Finds from Switzerland for processing, evaluating and cataloging coin finds from Switzerland and Liechtenstein, and will be available both as linked open research data and in print.

13th Annual Meeting of the European Coin Find Network and Nomisma.org, Bari, 15th-18th September 2026

We are delighted to announce that the 13th Meeting of the European Coin Find Network (ECFN) and Nomisma.org will take place at the University of Bari ‘Aldo Moro’, Department of Humanities Research and Innovation on September 15th-18th 2026.

Thank you Federico Carbone for the invitation and agreeing to host the meeting!

There will be a two-day Nomisma.org workshop on September 15th-16th, followed by a two-day conference of the European Coin Find Network on September 17th-18th

ECFN 2025 – Call for Papers

The 12th meeting of the European Coin Find Network (ECFN) will be held at the Institute of Archaeology, University College London on September 4th-5th 2025.

We invite paper proposals on any aspect of the study of coin finds especially:
· Digital aspects of the recording and analysis of coins, coin collections and coin finds;
· the application of Al to the study of coin finds;
· coins, coin finds and the public.
Papers are invited for longer form (15 + 5 minutes) and in lightning form (5 minutes).
Posters proposals are also welcome.

CoinFindsViewer: a new project for the visualisation of Roman coin finds

The CoinFindsViewer project, directed by Stefan Krmnicek, Faculty of Humanities, Eberhard Karls University Tübingen, represents the first large-scale visualization of Roman coin find data in southern Germany. It enables users to interactively explore the dataset along the Roman frontier, the Limes, and its hinterland across various historical periods. CoinFindsViewer emerged from a collaboration between the Master’s specialization in Digital Humanities and Project B02 of the Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1391.

Annual meeting of the European Coin Find Network 2025 – save the date!

This year’s meeting of the European Coin Find Network is planned to take place at the UCL Institute of Archaeology, 31-34 Gordon Square, London on Thursday 4th – Friday 5th September 2025.
A pre-conference excursion to Welwyn and Verulamiumwill take place on Wednesday 3rd September, in order to allow attendance at the RNS Symposium in Oxford on Saturday 6th.
