Work­shop sem­inar on metal-de­tect­ing and her­it­age man­age­ment in the Nordic countries

A workshop on Future directions in audience engagement for heritage management organizations is to be held at the University of Helsinki, Finland on 2nd-3rd June 2022 (10:00-15:30 EET).

From Treasure Hunters to Citizen Scientists workshop seminar series aims to examine the various citizen science and heritage management challenges presented by metal-detecting, specifically through engagement and consultation with diverse audiences and stake-holder groups specifically in the Nordic countries.

The first of three events in the series will be organised by the University of Helsinki, Finland (2nd-3rd June 2022, 10:00-15:30 EET). This workshop, consisting of a series of public talks and discussion, focuses on the heritage management authorities, considering their recognition of the need to enhance engagement with metal-detectorists and other interested members of the public. Future workshops will take place a the University Museum of Bergen, Norway (6-7th October 2022) and Århus University, Denmark (27-28th April 2023). The workshops are made possibile by a grant from NOS-HS / Nordisk samarbeitsnemnd for humanistisk og samfunnsviteskapelig forskning.

Registration is now open for the workshop. Attendance is free and the workshop will be held in hybrid format, on site and by streaming. This workshop, consisting of a series of public talks and discussion, focuses on the heritage management authorities, considering their recognition of the need to enhance engagement with metal-detectorists and other interested members of the public.
